Quality of life in self care, work, and recreation

Rehabilitation can be very effective when done in the client’s community. The education, support, and strategies that are taught are applied to activities that are important to the client. This offers the client a sense of control in their ability to regain independence. In other words, improvement can be seen where the client needs it most. We help people rebuild their cognitive skills, emotional/mental health and physical fitness. We work with clients in their home, school, community center, neighbourhood, and work place.

Rehab Solutions Community Based Rehabilitation

After my brain injury, I learned new ways of doing things so that I could manage on my own.

Practical goals may include regaining skills in:

  • Self care, such as moving around the home safely, dressing, and preparing a meal.
  • Shopping and banking, such as budgeting for groceries.
  • Community access, such as using the bus or resuming driving.
  • Resuming leisure and recreational activities.
  • Education, such as accessing services to assist with regaining study skills, and learning strategies to aid with memory.
  • Work, such as paid employment or volunteer work.

We often work with rehabilitation assistants and family members to help carry out some aspects of the rehabilitation. This is not only cost effective but also helps to educate the family regarding the process and expectations of the individual’s recovery.

Thank you also Brenda for the many times you have helped George and I along our road of recovery. We still have some problems but we are trying our best.

Sincerely, Anne
